Col. Terry W. Austin will give Return Day invocation

We are very proud to announce that Cape Henlopen High School graduate Col. Terry W. Austin has accepted to give the invocation at this years Return Day Thursday November 8th.  Col. Austin is Command Chaplin of the Military District of Washington D.C. which includes Arlington Cemetery. Chaplain (Colonel) Terry W. Austin  grew up in Rehoboth Beach Delaware and was a graduate of Cape Henlopen High School.  He first joined the military by enlisting in the Marine Corps in 1975 and served until 1979. He graduated from Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, TN (B.A. 1983) and received his Masters of Divinity in 1989 from Mid-American Baptist Theological Seminary, Memphis, TN.  He received a direct commission into the Chaplain Candidate Program in 1986, while  serving in the Alabama National Guard and came on active duty at Fort Bragg, NC in 1989. Chaplain Austin’s assignments include, 264th Corps Support Battalion,  Fort Bragg, NC (DESERT STORM) (1989-1993); 1-6 Infantry Battalion, Vilseck, Germany, (OPERATION ABLE SENTRY, Macedonia) (1993-1996); 11th Infantry Regiment (Airborne), Fort Benning, GA (19961998); 313th Military Intelligence Battalion (Airborne), Fort Bragg, NC (1998-1999); 319th Field Artillery Regiment (Airborne), Fort Bragg, NC (1999-2001); 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), Fort Campbell, KY, (OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM & OPERATION IRAQ FREEDOM) (20012004); 704th Military Intelligence Brigade, Fort Meade, MD (2004-2007); USA Office of Military Support, Fort Belvoir, VA (2007-2010); Deputy XVII Airborne Corps Chaplain, Fort Bragg, NC, and Deputy USF-I Chaplain, Victory Base, Iraq, (OPERATION NEW DAWN) (2010-2011); 8A Command Chaplain, Yongsan, Korea (2011-2012), IMCOM Command Chaplain, JBSA-Fort Sam Houston, TX (2012-2014); Garrison Chaplain Fort Campbell, KY (2014-2016).    Chaplain Austin is a graduate of the Army War College (2011).   Join us on the Circle in Georgetown as we celebrate our Democracy, "bury the hatchet" on the political campaign of 2018 and welcome our esteemed fellow Sussex Countian back home!
